You will not only dive into the history of a 1000-year-old Zaehringer city, in Villingen-Schwenningen, but also in its chronicle of clock industry. The city center of Villingen features the breathtaking historic townspeople houses with their artisan murals. The 3 large city gates and the nearly complete city wall and defense towers complete the cities cityscape. On the Münsterplatz you can not only find the weekly farmers market, but also the Christmas market during the holidays and city fests. The very impressive cathedral "Unserer Lieben Frau" and the cathedral fountain is located right here. Additionally, to that Villingen-Schwenningen offers a few green parks like the Hubenloch with a 25-meter-high observation tower and Europe’s highest located rose garden. In the Nature protection area Schwenninger bog the river Neckar has its beginnings and flows from there. The Neckar spring, located in the Schwenningen city park Möglingshöhe, received a new spring rock doe the state garden show in 2010. Other parks and public gardens are the Bürkpark and the Mauthepark, a former private garden of a Schwenningen-city clock manufacturer; the city Schwenningen used to be the seat of the largest clock production in the world. In the clock industry museum, you can follow the traces of the industry. The 320 kilometers long German clock route begins right there.

The catholic church has been housing the much revered Nägelinskreuz since the 14th century.
The artist Klaus Ringwald immortalized events and important people of the Villingen history on the cathedral fountain.

City gates:

The Riet gate, the Bicken gate and the Upper gate will greet their visitors and locals when entering the old city center of Villingen.

Defense towers

The Romäus- and the Emperor’s tower housed the watchmen during the medieval times. From there they would keep watch over their surroundings and defend the city from enemies.

Franciscan cultural center

The former monastery now houses the Franciscan museum, the tourist information and a concert hall with incredible acoustics.

Schwenningen bog and Möglingshöhe

In the nature protection area Schwenningen bog the Neckar river spring is located. The new spring boulder that covers the spring of the Neckar river is in the public park Möglingshöhe.

Mauthepark:

Former private garden of the clock manufacturer Mauthe. Today it is the largest public garden in the district of Schwenningen.

Also known as the fifth season. The colorful madness has its hay days during the week before Fat Tuesday.

The Neckar valley bike path begins in the district of Schwenningen. There are countless bike and hiking trails that lead you through Villingen-Schwenningen and the surrounding area.
