Ingredients:

  • Coffee or 2 Shots of Espresso
  • Sugar
  • Milk or Heavy Cream
  • Canned Pumpkin Puree (Make sure you're buying 100% Pumpkin Puree and not the Pumpkin Pie Filling)
  • Vanilla Extract (I assume she means vanilla extract; no American calls it vanilla syrup)
  • Pumpkin Pie Spice (which can be bought or made)
  • Whipped Cream & Cinnamon (optional)

Step One:

Brew your coffee - you can use any blend of coffee you like, and it doesn't really matter what you use to brew it. I'll be using my French press and the Starbucks Anniversary Blend coffee beans. If you're using an espresso machine, you'll want to wait until the end to prepare yourself 2 shots of espresso—so skip this step and move on to...

Step Two:

I started by heating up about 2 TBSP of the canned pumpkin puree, mixing in a little bit of milk until it had a nice smooth consistency. I then added 3 TBSP of the Vanilla Extract, ½ TSP Pumpkin Pie Spice (mine was in liquid form) and about 1 TBSP of sugar. Keep the heat on low, stirring frequently. You can obviously use more or less of each ingredient, depending on how strong or sweet you like your coffee. As I mentioned before, I love mine with lots of milk and sugar.  For me, it was a bit of a trial and error system until I got the right flavor, so don't be discouraged if it isn't perfect the first time around. You're always better off using less of an ingredient and adding more to get the flavor you want. Let this simmer (stirring often) for a few minutes until it has a nice smooth consistency and a good aroma.

Step Three:

If you're using regular coffee, just go ahead and mix it all together, I did this in my sauce pan and then poured it into my cup. Top with whip cream and a dash of cinnamon or drink as is.

If you're using two shots of espresso, simply pour those into your cup first, then add the pumpkin spice mixture and top with whip cream and cinnamon (or not).

Lastly, if you're in the mood for a nice cool drink you can add a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream and drink it like that or blend it all together for a frappe.
Enjoy!
