For someone like me who has lived in the Stuttgart area for over 20 years it is possible to miss out on some great local restaurants.

Last Sunday, my family and I visited a restaurant that we’ve always known about, driven passed, but never stopped to have a meal. Big mistake! The “Zum Brückle” is one of those overlooked treasures located on a side street in the town of Stuttgart Plieningen, near Kelley Barracks.

“Zum Brückle” is a quaint little restaurant with the typical German décor and design. There are also photos of Plieningen and the neighboring city of Hohenheim depicted in former times. The restaurant also has a very nice sunny terrace/beer garden area behind the restaurant. Unfortunately, the beer garden area is open from May-October so we just missed being able to sit outside. “Zum Brückle” serves many regular German and Swabian foods that we’ve all come to know and love, Schnitzel, Cordon Bleu, Geschnetzeltes, Maultaschen and the like. They also offer a lunch menu; a 3 course meal for 8 Euro. This is great for those living and working near the Plieningen area. They offer a large selection of drinks, from Coffee and Tea to Beer and Wine and Non-alcoholic beverages. They also offer a selection of various desserts, mixed ice cream, and one of my favorites “Heisse Liebe”, which consists of vanilla ice cream with hot raspberries. YUM!

We were also surprised to see another favorite on the menu, “The Balkan Platter”. The Balkan Platter consists of Raznjici which is a type of sausage, homemade Cevapcici, turkey-steak, French Fries, Djuvec rice and a salad plate.

I decided to try something new this time so I ordered the Speckpfannkuchen (German pancake served with Bacon). I really enjoyed the Pfannkuchen, it was rich, very hearty and a large serving which I had to take home in a doggie bag.

My son who is a vegetarian, ordered the Hausgemachte Spinat-Käse Kartoffel Kroketten with Gorgonzola sauce (homemade spinach-cheese potato krokette), this was a huge hit!! My son said it was delicious and very satisfying. He liked the flavor combination of the potato and the spinach with the Gorgonzola cheese.

My husband ordered of course, The Balkan platter! Surprise, he loved it! He finished the entire platter. I had to taste the Djuvec rice, it was so mouthwateringly delicious and rich in flavor. I could’ve eaten an entire bowl of the Djuvec myself!

The restaurant is located on Götzstrasse 35, 70599 Stuttgart. Opening hours are Tuesday-Friday and Sunday from 11:30-14:30 and 18:00-23:00, Saturday from 18:00-23:00, they are closed on Mondays. Warm meals are served daily until 22:30. They accept all major credit cards and accepts the VAT from.

Overall we had a great experience, the “Zum Brückle” is a nice place to spend time with family and friends. It is easily accessible by bus, but if you choose to drive there is limited parking in front of the restaurant however, plenty of parking along the street. I highly encourage to check out the restaurant!
